Philosophy and Purpose

ENSW is committed to continual improvement and development of equestrian sport and has created the Special Projects Fund with a view to meeting this objective.  The purpose of the SPF is to support projects undertaken by any member or affiliate of the ENSW to progress and strengthen the sport with a view to the long term future. Submissions for the SPF must meet the guidelines for applications for funding of special projects. Details below.

The Board of ENSW shall determine to set aside or apply monies from the fund for purposes it considers appropriate to the philosophy of the fund and worthy of support. The ENSW Board reviews SPF applications at the January board meeting each year.

How to apply for funding for Special Projects Funding.

To be considered for funding, applications must meet the following conditions:

  • The proposer must make application for funding of a special project by 15 November in the year preceding the year in which the project takes place.   Note: Applications received by 15 November each year (for the following year) will be considered. No late applications considered.
  • The project must be supported or controlled by ENSW, one of its discipline councils/committees or one of its affiliate clubs. Submissions will only be accepted if sent via and endorsed by the applicable discipline committee.
  • The project must be of a nature that develops the sport, its officials or its member competitors and their horses.
  • The project must be endorsed by the applicable discipline committee or council.
  • The proposer must supply a budget that incorporates all income and expense items of the project including funding expected from other sources.
  • No money will be paid to individuals unless the project itself requests such payments and these payments are approved by the Board.
  • On approval of an application, 80 per cent of the monies granted will be paid to the organiser of the project. There may be occasions when the nature of the project justifies the payment of the full amount granted. Where only 80 percent of the moneys granted were paid out, the proposer must - at the conclusion of the project to obtain the remaining 20% portion of any grant given - submit a report of the project's execution and a profit and loss account that shows its financial performance within eights weeks of completion date of project.
  • ENSW will consider the statements submitted and will then decide whether the balance should be paid.

What the NSW Board will consider:

  • The Board may approve grants up to $5,000 per project only.
  • The Board decides before the beginning of each calendar year which portion of the total fund is available for distribution in that particular year.
  • When considering applications, the Board firstly decides whether the proposed project meets the funding philosophy of the Fund (i.e. whether it has merit) and whether the administrative requirements have been fulfilled.
  • The Board encourages SPF submissions to consider areas that develop the sport, in particular issues such as youth, regional, officials and training development or show creative initiative in improving the profile of the sport to members and non members alike.
  • The Board will look favorably upon those projects which demonstrate that the discipline council/committee or affiliated club has contributed funds or project costs in kind to the project. Where this is the case this contribution should be clearly shown on the submitted budget for the Board’s consideration.
  • Event or capital works funding (ie. equipment, courses) WILL NOT be considered under the SPF. Application for funding in these areas should be made to the Board under the general funding policy.
